Formulation, preparation, and application of materials for Dental Materials
Many of the advancements in modern dental care directly related to the development of modern dental materials. Products such as whitening gels, resin composites, cements, and implant materials have all come a long way in recent years. For example, dental implants can now be 3D printed and can sometimes be installed the same day! Composites boast better bond strength and compressive strength than ever before. Whitening gels, polishes, and fluoride treatments have also made massive improvements in performance due to new materials and formulations.
Mixing plays a major role in researching and manufacturing these new materials. Higher solids content, which leads to higher compressive strength, requires more powerful mixing methods and better control of temperature. More advanced deairing methods are also necessary as bubbles and voids are more difficult to remove from these new systems. Furthermore, process time in R&D and production must be reduced to keep up in these competitive markets. The right mixer makes a big difference when trying to overcome these new challenges.
