Formulation, preparation, and application of materials for Cannabis
The cannabis industry is growing rapidly in many parts of the world. All manufacturers, including the largest MSOs, are feeling pressure to process flower into commercial goods more efficiently and at higher volumes. The need to differentiate products from other offerings is also greater than ever. For many, the way to stay ahead of the crowd is to get smart about manufacturing processes, and to bring innovative products like custom infused pre-rolled joints or custom blended vape oils to market.
After an optimized extraction process, efficient solvent stripping methods and fast mixing / blending processes are some of the best ways to reduce cost and increase throughput. Many manufacturers have incorporated rapid processing methods to remove ethanol from their distillate. However, butane extracted distillate may still spend many hours (or even days) in vacuum ovens to reduce the butane content to safe levels.
- An optimized vacuum mixing method has been proven to reduce the time required for butane purging/stripping processes to tens of minutes or less.
The next big opportunities for improvement that we have discovered are in the speed and quality of the production processes for vape oil and pre-rolls.
- Many vape cartridge manufacturers are currently heating distillate to reduce viscosity prior to blending with terpenes and/or other ingredients. With more powerful mixing equipment the long heating cycle can be reduced or eliminated. This saves time and reduces the risk that volatile compounds like terpenes will evaporate.
- The challenge most people face when manufacturing infused pre-rolled joints is finding a way to achieve an accurate dosage and consistent delivery throughout the product while maintaining the desired production rate. All 3 of these conditions can be met by homogeneously coating the flower with distillate using high speed mixing prior to manufacturing the pre-rolls.
